ALASKA UNIMAK ISLAND BROWN BEAR
The hunter has the choice of a spring or fall Unimak Island Brown Bear, hunt (DB375 or DB376). Unimak is the only island in the Aleutian chain boasting native brown bear, caribou, wolf, and wolverine populations and hunting there is a unique experience. Alaska Fish & Game encourages a spring hunt as the animal's fur is in prime condition at that time. Unimak has a dense population of bears and consistently produces Boone and Crockett trophies. The skull size of males harvested on Unimak is comparable to other trophy bear hunt areas. Male skull sizes on the AK Peninsula and Kodiak average 24 inch skulls while Unimak males average 26 inches in the harvest.  This larger average is due to the high quality of the hunt. Bear harvest on Unimak is kept low to cultivate this characteristic and offer a quality hunting experience to any who have a chance to hunt the island.  The success rate is close to 100%.
