The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs (CTWS) is pleased to announce its first ever public California bighorn sheep auction permit. 168 years in the making, this inaugural hunt will not disappoint. Located in beautiful Central Oregon, the boundaries of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation consist of the wild and scenic Metolius and the Deschutes rivers, known for their runs of wild steelhead and salmon. This rugged and diverse country contains spectacular views of the State’s highest peaks and hosts an array of wildlife ranging from wolves to mountain goats, with massive bighorn rams in between. This once in a lifetime opportunity will allow a hunter the chance to pursue game over nearly 200,000 acres of habitat on the largest Reservation in the state.

Managed for the benefit of subsistence hunting and traditional material uses, the Mutton Mountain sheep herd of Oregon was established over two decades ago and has been pursued by less than 25 Tribal members in controlled hunts since 2007. Tribal management, paired with stringent public access restrictions, has led to a band of sheep nearly 300 strong that are truly wild, in an equally wild country. The largest ram taken from this band in 2015 held the record for fifth in the state, scoring in at nearly 185”. Left relatively untouched, these animals have only gotten bigger in the ensuing years. There is no finer opportunity than this for taking an exceptional California bighorn sheep. Hunters may choose to boat into their location, or hike into a backcountry seldom experienced by non-Tribal members, promising a full-scale adventure.
Proceeds of this permit will be used to aid CTWS in upholding their Integrated Resource Management Plan, manage wild sheep populations and restore habitat, and ensure these resources for future generations through limited and sustainable hunt and harvest.

The successful bidder may hunt any bighorn ram within the Mutton Mountain area and north of Eagle Creek drainage during the 2024 hunting season (August 1st - November 30th). CTWS have designated a tribal member guide employed by Eden Ridge Outfitters (ERO), LLC as the licensed outfitter for this hunt. ERO will provide scouting, guide service, and game care. All negotiations for guide services shall be made with ERO. Contact John McCollum at (541)290-2671 or Owen Danzuka Jr. at (541) 325-1326. All hunters must comply with the rules and regulations outlined in the CTWS 2024 hunting regulations and the CTWS Hunting and Trapping Code 350 and other CTWS Tribal Law and Policy.

A 5% buyer’s premium will be added to the final bid price of this special permit/tag (unless prohibited by statute.) The proceeds will be dedicated to WSF Conservation Initiatives. If the winner of this item refuses to pay the premiums required, the item shall be offered to the next highest bidder for the price he/she bid.
