The Navajo Nation Department of Fish and Wildlife has selected WSF to auction a desert bighorn sheep permit. Proceeds will be used to fund ongoing desert sheep management projects including continued radio telemetry studies on three herds and future transplants and a cull project now to get rid of pneumonia. The Navajo Nation began managing their sheep in 1996 with a single herd of 34 animals. Today there are three herds of desert sheep on the Navajo Nation and the total sheep population is over 500. The Navajo Nation’s goal is to provide long term, limited, sustainable hunting for tribal and non-tribal members. This permit is for any desert bighorn ram, valid from September 1st – December 31, 2025. The Permit is valid for Unit 6 on Lake Powell on the Navajo Nation land. A licensed Navajo Nation Guide is required. The successful bidder will have the opportunity to harvest a mature desert bighorn ram.
