DONATION: In August 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU) was reached by Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF) and the highest authorities in Tajikistan following the WSF Conservation Strategy for Central Asia. WSF International Conservation Director Kurt Alt and WSF Conservation Committee Chairman Jack Atcheson arrived in Tajikistan in early August and met with Gulmanmadzoda Dalvalatshoh, Chairman of the Committee of the Environmental Protection, Republic of Tajikistan and Farhod Salim, Tajikistan Ambassador to the US. The MOU created a Marco Polo Conservation Permit for the 2020 “Sheep Show”! This hunt will be conducted with the community-based conservancy, Burgut and guided by professional village hunters with the experience of 20 years in MP hunts in the Pamir Mountains.
Sleep in the warm and comfortable Yurt. Riding Yaks, in the traditional style of Pamirs hunts. Altitudes are 12000 to 14500+ ft. The Burgut area is a protected area since 2010 and little hunting has occurred there yet and should contain some of the largest rams ever found in Tajikistan. Many 55 inch (8 years+) and above rams are found in this area.
Part of the conservation permit revenues will go to support Marco Polo sheep community-based program in this conservancy and the rest into range wide conservation actions like the March 2020 Marco Polo surveys.
The MOU creates conservation programs that will fund the Tajikistan Committee of Environmental Protection's conservation priorities including extensive surveys of Marco Poli, Ibex, Urial , Markhor and Severtsov argali. Conservation dollars from conservation permits will also support horn plugging, which will be a part of hunting regulations in Tajikistan beginning in 2019, and forward. WSF has delivered horn plugs for all 4 species listed above. Conservation funding from conservation permits will also be directed towards scientifically sound monitoring surveys, disease monitoring and conserving and increasing Tajikistan’s mountain ungulates. This work will be in Caprinae habitat nationwide including nature reserves/parks. Like the enormously successful North American conservation programs, your sponsorship payment for the new Central Asian conservation programs via WSF, funds are considered a charitable contribution for US citizens.
These programs should be considered a once in a lifetime opportunity for hunter sponsored conservation!

Marco Polo have not been hunted since 2010. Hunters will be taken to the hunting areas via jeep horses of riding yaks. Hunting is available from Sept to Feb 28 the top periods to hunt are October to mid-December. All hunts are from houses or cabins. Hunters should plan at least 10 days in the field. There are many rams over 55 inches and rams over 60 to 65 inches are present. This arguably the top Marco Polo region in all of Tajikistan. Hunters will be hunting in thin air 12000 to 16000. Shot are 200 to 400 yards. Longer shots are discouraged. Hunters will see hundreds of sheep daily and ibex can be included for 5500 per ibex
