The MOU creates conservation programs that will fund the Tajikistan Committee of Environmental Protection’s conservation priorities including extensive surveys of Marco Polo, Ibex, Urial , Markhor and Severtsov argali. Conservation dollars from conservation permits will also support horn plugging, which will be a part of hunting regulations in Tajikistan beginning in 2019, and forward. WSF has delivered horn plugs for all 4 species listed above. Conservation funding from conservation permits will also be directed towards scientifically sound monitoring surveys, disease monitoring and conserving and increasing Tajikistan’s mountain ungulates. This work will be in Caprinae habitat nationwide including nature reserves/parks. Like the enormously successful North American conservation programs, your sponsorship payment for the new Central Asian conservation programs via WSF, funds are considered a charitable contribution for US citizens.
These programs should be considered a once in a lifetime opportunity for hunter sponsored conservation!

Bukhara Urial hunting is open Sept to Feb 28. The rut period is the best hunting from mid Nov to Dec 15. Hunting from jeeps or horses is the normal style. Plan 7 days in the field. Hunters will use houses or small tent camps for lodging. The Tajikistan delegation will have a booth in Conservation row and can personally talk with Tajik govt. rep and director of the Conservation program Khalil Karimov. The program personal as speak and write in perfect English and will assist on travel planning, on line visas are simple, hunting and firearms permitting also provided. All an easy process. Trophy expending is coordinated for the hunter and often shipped in two to three months. The process of the payment are 100 % directed to conservation actions that have been prioritized by Tajik wildlife management and the WSF Conservation Staff assisting as needed. This year the highest priority is a long overdue range wide Marco Polo sheep population census. Multiple teams of wildlife experts including IUCN, CITES, SULi and WSF members will count Marco sheep ibex and other species for two months and prepare a basis line population and habitat needs document. USFWS will be reviewing the census before and after. WSF and Tajikistan Wildlife authorities has begun the first season of the successful WSF horn plugging program which clearly helps to valid legal harvest for al sheep ibex and Markhor plus formal science needed data like individual DNA samples of horn and hair, species age, horn measurement and collection of samples for disease research. All actions mirror wild sheep conservation action here in NA.
